James Harpur

James Harpur has published ten books of poetry and won a number of prizes and awards, including the 1995 National Poetry Competition, the Michael Hartnett Prize and the Vincent Buckley Prize. His latest book of poems is The Gospel of Gargoyle (Eblana Press); and his debut novel, The Pathless Country (Cinnamon, 2021), was winner of the JG Farrell Award. He is also the author of non-fiction, including his latest, Dazzling Darkness: the Lives and Afterlives of the Christian Mystics (Hurst, 2025). He is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Trinity College, Dublin.
