Daniel Samuel

Dr Daniel Samuel

Dr Daniel Samuel studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London. Soon after qualifying as a GP, he left clinical practice to pursue a PhD in intellectual history at the Warburg Institute, London which examined how changes in seventeenth-century thought shaped the way emotions were understood to be present across the mind, body and soul.

He is interested in the frequency and extent to which psychological states affect physical health and why conversations addressing this topic often break down. He is also interested in whether there should be a place to talk about ‘the soul’ when it comes to questions around well-being.

He has been an academic board member of the Temenos Academy since 2019 and has been its administrator since 2023.
